The Holden HQ is an Australian icon, representing the marque’s second-ever evolution in terms of build architecture. As a result, the HQ featured a completely new chassis, bodywork, and suspension setup. Now nearly 50 years old, finding largely original examples like this is a challenging task, especially given the model’s significance in Australian automotive history.
This 1974 Holden Kingswood is a sound example of an all-time Aussie great, with a high factory specification. It is equipped with a high-compression 202ci (3.3-litre) straight-six ‘red’ motor and three-speed ‘Trimatic’ automatic transmission. As well as the more powerful engine, there are plenty of period-correct and original accessories fitted that remain on the vehicle.
This HQ Kingswood is a desirable late model benefitting from factory improvements made along its four-year production cycle.
The Holden Kingswood was a higher trim level of ‘HQ’ sedan. Optional extras include chrome exterior trims, exterior door handle protectors, front sun visor, GTS alloy wheels, and bumper over-riders.
The vehicle retains its original badging and brightwork. Upgrades include modern suspension uprights and thicker sway bars. Being a late-model HQ, it also features adjustable ‘safety’ headrests, larger and more powerful brakes, and numerous structural improvements over earlier models. An aftermarket CD player has been installed under the dashboard.
This Kingswood is a presentable and usable classic, which is ready to enjoy. If you’d like to read more about it or register to bid you can click here to visit the listing.
